I am available to create commissioned art of classic and other high end vehicles.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)

What is the process for creating a Light Painting?

If you are located a reasonable distance from my base of operations (Northern Virginia) we will meet prior to photographing your car to create a plan.   In addition to having a car that you love, deciding where to light paint your car is an important decision that will have an impact on the quality of your final image. There is no charge for this initial meeting. If you live beyond a reasonable distance for an initial consultation we can work out a lot of the details via phone and email.

After our initial meeting or discussion, we need to schedule a time and date to light paint your vehicle.

I will arrive at the location about 30 minutes prior to sunset. We usually start the process of light painting about 20 minutes after sunset. After the location shoot has been concluded I will start the process of compositing the images in Photoshop. Depending on the complexity of the shot and composition, completing the composite (final) image can take several hours of labor. It is my hope to complete your image within a week or two of shooting. However, there may be certain times of the year where this process will take longer due to other commitments.

The completed image of your vehicle will be posted on a private page on this site for your review. The image will not be available for downloading. Once you approve of the final image we will have the image printed to your specifications for delivery.  Payment in full will be required at the time of the print delivery.

How many images will be created during the Light Painting session?

Generally between 1 and 2 compositions total will be created.  Each composition may require as many as 100 images to be sure we have perfectly lit every component of the scene. With each composition taking 30 minutes or longer it is not practical to generate more than just a couple of compositions for this type of work.

What Size Prints Do You Offer?

My standard fee includes one 20 by 30 inch print with a metallic finish.  Additional prints, print sizes and print media (metal, glass, etc) are available at an additional cost.

Do you do car photography other than Light Painting?

Yes – Contact me to discuss your needs.  Fees will vary depending on the simplicity or complexity of the session.

Can I just have a jpg image for posting online and not worry about the print?

We will offer all clients a low resolution and watermarked file that will be perfectly suitable for displaying online or on your social media.  But this file will not be suitable for printing.  The original high quality files remain my property.

If a client does not wish for a print we will adjust the price of the job accordingly.

Should a client need high resolution and non-watermarked images, we can negotiate the terms and fees for such an arrangement.

Since this is my car, I can do anything with the final image correct?

Each image is a creation of mine and as such I retain the copyright. If you need images for publication or other uses contact me.  We should be able to easily work out the details.

For something simple like a photograph all this seems rather complicated.

I understand the concern.   Please keep in mind I am not creating a snapshot.   I have many years of experience, professional equipment and work to maintain high production values.  I view creating an image of your car as a project and as such it requires planning and professional execution.   Due to the world we live in I think it best to have all the terms of our business relationship in writing, this should help avoid any misunderstandings.

I love your images, how can I book you to photograph my car?

Use the contact form to send me an email and we will get the process started

Will you travel outside of the DC, Virginia, Maryland area to Light Paint my Car?

Yes – Depending on the distance, this would require a higher fee. Let’s talk about it.

So how much will this cost?

My starting fee for light painting is $500.00.  Remember there is no fee to meet and you are under no obligation to hire me when we meet.

If for any reason you are not happy with your print, return it to me and I will either have it reprinted or refund your fee.  Any requests for refunds will need to be presented within 30 days of receipt of the print.

How will the print be delivered?

After approval of your image and receipt of the balance due I will have your image professionally printed.   The images are first delivered to me, in order to assure the quality of the print.   Once I am satisfied with the quality of the print I will make arrangements to either deliver to print to you in person or have the print shipped to you.

Is my satisfaction guaranteed?

Yes – The last thing I want is you having a bad experience. If you do not like the proof image of your vehicle, you are under no obligation to order a print.  I will still retain the property release to use images of your vehicle on my website, social media or other promotional purposes.

If after receiving your print you decide you are not happy, simply return the print to me and I will either have it reprinted or issue a refund. If after a second reprinting you are still not satisfied and I feel that I am not able to resolve the issue, I will refund any amount paid after receipt of the print or proof of its destruction.
