I have been teaching occasional Light Painting workshops at the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum in Weston, WV since 2014 . The asylum offers a great mix of subject material for learning this technique.

We start the evening with a presentation on light painting and then spend a few hours actually practicing the technique. My priority throughout the evening is helping my clients.

Please visit the Asylum’s website to register.

Minimum Camera Recommendations;

  • Camera and Tripod.
  • Medium Focal Length Lens – 24-70mm is a good choice.
  • Remote Shutter release

This work is done with small handheld flashlights. I will email participants a few weeks prior to the workshop with last minute details and lighting recommendations.

Multiple hotels are in Weston, WV.

Photographers should also consider enrolling in the photography tour at the Asylum on Sunday April 19th. This is lead by the staff at the Asylum and offers the opportunity to photograph multiple buildings during the day. We will only have access to the main Kirkbride Building during our workshop.
